About SPNS

For more than 40 years, Sequoia Parents Nursery School (SPNS) has provided a play-based learning environment in San Carlos, CA for children ages two to five. As a nonprofit cooperative school, SPNS is led by early childhood educators and staffed by parent volunteers. We are proud to offer families an affordable program which allows children, parents, and teachers the opportunity to learn from each other.

SPNS’s primary philosophy is that play — especially with playmates — is one of the most important experiences of childhood. Through play, children develop physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially. We offer a large indoor and outdoor space, replete with age-appropriate toys and games, so that children can get down to the business of play. SPNS also provides daily structure, including regular opportunities for children to bond with their teacher, learn to share, listen in a group setting, and develop new skills by participating in hands-on art, science, and cooking projects.
